Develop a Research Proposal That Describe a Plan for a Specific Research Project Based on Readings, Workshop Discussions
The introduction provides an overview of the research topic, its purpose and the broad field within which it is located. Describe the social/political/economic background/context of the research and describe the specific area of your interest and the topic of your research. For example it might be to address a gap in the research; the impact of an issue on a specific group of people; a specific lens on the issue; addressing policy in the field.
Identify the aspect of social research you are focussing on and outline your specific research question/statement/hypothesis. The research question may not be a question as such, but rather a precise statement of a problem to be investigated. Based on relevant readings and workshop material identify the issues and debates and how you could see these being resolved in relation to your research question.
Explain why your research is important, how it will add to the existing knowledge. Determine the aims of the research, for example: To build on existing knowledge about a particular aspect of the topic; To test the relevance of the findings of existing research to a particular target population;
Explain what the research will not be doing if this needs to be stated. Organise your discussion around the different issues and debates you have identified; and flesh out th e debates and complexities, give examples and contextualise to your research topic/question. In order to complete this section, you are expected to start with a literature review that addresses the research already undertaken on the topic, different theoretical perspectives on the topic and literature on the topic that raises different issues.
