The Gulf Open University (GOU) is a Non-profit educational university established in 2020. The university occupies several campuses located across the world, including HQ in Bahrain and campuses in UAE, and Kuwait and there is a need for each of these campuses networks to be connected. 

Three Faculties have been established in each campus: 
1. Faculty of Engineering.
2. Faculty of Information Technology 
3. Faculty of Business Administration 

Each campus is home to approximately 700 students, 60 faculty Tutors divided equally on three faculties, 10 IT staff, 8 HR& accounting, 8 Executive management, and 20 employees for general purposes. There are some external factors which may result in one or more of these campuses doubling their enrolment over the next five years. Each campus has the following labs: - Engineering labs: 2 labs for Electrical engineering, 2 labs for mechanical engineering, and 2 labs for Civil Engineering. - IT labs: 2 Multimedia labs, 1 gaming lab, 4 labs with high specs machines. - Business Administration labs: 5 normal computers labs. Each lab has 25 computers equipped with the required software for each faculty. The company’s email server and web server will also be located in Bahrain and these servers will use a public IP address. GOU has been assigned the public IP address range 109.161.146.0/26 for use on its servers and public links. 

The network design that will be used to deploy and implement should have the specifications that would not only cover the main requirements but would also ensure future growth, availability and scalability, redundancy in addition to the highest levels of security.

You are a network administrator who is responsible for designing and implementing the network infrastructure for GOU. You will have to implement the network using simulation software. For each step also, you need to detail the technologies that are going to be used and how these technologies have been implemented.

PROJECT REPORT

Step 1 
Design a private IPv4 addressing scheme for the network. Also select an appropriate routing protocol and justify your selection. (LOs 1, 3) 

Step 2 
The Local Area Network (LAN) configuration in each site should separate users of different types. Give details on how this is achieved in the report and illustrate the performance improvement on the network at one of your sites when users of different types are separated. (LOs 1) 

Step 3
Design security and redundancy measures on the LAN. Detail in the report how these measures will be implemented on each location’s LAN. (LOs 1, 5) 

Step 4
Each campus needs wireless access in addition to the fixed wired access. Detail in terms of designing, planning, implementation and benefits how wireless access will be added to the LAN at one site. (LO 4) 

Step 5
To provide an Internet service to all campuses the university has reached an agreement with the Delta Internet Provider, (DIP). DIP is connected to Port Communications (PC) which then provides communication to other countries Internet services. The public IP addresses assigned to this link are in the 109.161.146.0/27 range. To implement the connection between the HQ and DIP, select a data link layer encapsulation method on this serial link connection. This encapsulation method must operate on multi-vendor devices and support authentication, compression and multiple network layer protocols. Justify your selection. (LOs 3, 4)
 
Step 6 
There will be two teleworkers who prefer to work from their home and need to be connected to HQ network using PPPoE (DSL) as a broadband technology. Give details in the report about this technology and what the advantages of using this approach are. (LO 3, 4) 

Step 7
Network Address Translation/Port Address Translation (NAT/PAT) is mandatory at the HQ router where the campus has access to the Internet. (LO 5) 

Step 8
There are number of different users of the network from staff to students. We wish to restrict certain internet access rights for staff and students.
• Senior IT staff have been given odd IP addresses; allow devices with odd IP addresses in each campus from IT subnet to access network devices through telnet.
• Senior HR &Accounting staff have been given even IP addresses; allow devices with even IP addresses in each campus from HR subnet to access Executive management subnet and block the rest. 
• Block all HR & accounting staff from having communications with the Internet but allow access to all other parts of the network.
• Using a named ACL allow the Internet to access the servers in Bahrain for email and Internet traffic only. Block access to all other parts of the network. (LO 5)

Step 1
Assign IPv4 addresses to all interfaces according to your design in the report’s step 1. Proper login banners have to be used on all key network devices and should only include necessary information. (LOs 2, 4)
