The floor of a school assembly hall is to consist of a one-way post-tensioned slab with two 20m spans and 2m cantilevered overhangs at each end. It is to be designed for a live load of 5 kPa and a superimposed dead load of 1 kPa; in addition line loads of 30 kN/m (dead) and 5 kN/m (live) act at the ends of the cantilevers.
Design the slab to conform to AS3600, using VSL slab cables with four 12.7 mm strands; area Ap per strand = 100 mm2, breaking stress = 1840 MPa, fpy = 1600 MPa. Duct dimensions are 70 x 19, anchorages 265 x 70. Use cover to the tendons of 40 mm top and bottom. Design for economy, making reasoned decisions on prestress levels etc, and giving due consideration to strength, ductility and serviceability
