The heat transfer coefficient on steam side is 6800 W/m7.K. A pump is available which can deliver the desired quantity of water provided the pressure drop through the pipes does not exceed 13.8 kPa. The design should specify the heat exchanger type, size, transfer area, flow length, number of tubes, and fluid velocity. You are required list all assumptions and show all the calculations in determining the overall area, the length of the tube, the effectiveness etc. Discuss your selection. The selection of heat exchanger should take into the considerations of capital cost of the heat exchanger, its maintenance costs, and the pressure drop.
