My career aspirations are not childhood dreams but rather a work of consistent absorption of knowledge and learning about my interest domain. It was all about finding my path and the journey started from my curiosity about automations, digital and intelligent systems. Growing curiosity and a normal penchant for science and especially physics and mathematics saw me opting for Electrical and Electronics Engineering for my undergraduate studies at Bells University of Technology, Nigeria. From thence started my understanding of the domain which slowly and gradually grew into admiration and then a strong passion in Engineering Systems. Now, with the help of a Masters of Engineering in the chosen discipline from the University of Guelph, I want to realize my aspiration of contributing to the area of Engineering Systems in my home country.

Pursuing Electrical and Electronics Engineering was by far the wisest decision of my life for the subjects fell within the natural scope of things in my life. I was able to assimilate the information and readily implement the same in a variety of projects. While my performance was good in subjects throughout my undergraduate studies, I was effectively fascinated by automated and smart systems. Due to the strong affliction for Engineering Systems, I worked on my major project titled “Design of Solar-Powered Water Pumping System for a Remote Community” which was simulation using HOMER pro analysis tool. I was equipped with the knowledge of using renewable systems to settle the essential needs of mankind. I also went forward to research the possibilities of making such system a smart system and I found my findings fascinating. The project was completed under the supervision and mentorship of Dr D. O. Akinyele. More importantly, the work also presented to me the wide possibilities of the technology and left me desirous of learning more. The strong inclination guided me in the last semester as well when I opted for backend courses on Engineering Systems. Learning about Engineering Systems, I knew I wished to make a career within the area of specialization and decided that I would gain a better chance at improving the standard of living technologically by pursuing Masters in Engineering and becoming an expert within the field of specialization. The global world is towards knowledge based economy, and which engineering will play a vital role.

Over the past year, I have completed internships and courses in several engineering companies and organizations which led to learn the art of adoption, execution, direction, and implementation. I also underwent my short internship in Setraco Nigeria Limited where I was equipped with the practical knowledge and understanding of the components, working principles and maintenance of industrial generators and machines. My performance soon gave my supervisors the confidence to let me carry out some maintenance works on the generators. Furthermore, I underwent my longer internship in Nigerian Pipelines and Storage Company which lasted for 6 months. I learnt how to use AutoCAD and other computer software to develop blueprints and electrical designs to be used by the maintenance engineers and contractors. My ability to handle the group of interns, manage the resources and most importantly handle the various challenges won me recognition in the company. I also took COMPTIA A+ professional course and a certificate of attendance was issued by New Horizon. It gave me in-depth knowledge of computer hardware and software. This gave me a lot of opportunities to grow in my career. Based on my experiences, I have learnt the need for learning something new and relevant as well as practicing to innovate in the field. I believe that I have now reached the stage where I must now further enrich my knowledge.

After acquiring my masters, I would work as a professional in engineering systems in my home country where I would be able to put together my fresh academic knowledge and professional experience to improve the situation of communication, autonomous, digital and control systems. It gives me great satisfaction in applying my knowledge, which I have learned until now, to develop further understanding and solving practical problems. For me, no other profession promises creative satisfaction and intellectual independence, like the industry I am presently in, does. Ten years down the line, I see myself working as part of a leading engineering manufacturing group, contributing my bit to the field of Engineering Systems.

I now seek to further delve into the research division of the technology and bring myself to the level of expertise in design verification and validation. Moving on to University of Guelph, Canada, I seek to enrich my understanding level and gain the necessary understanding of the latest in various digital systems and well as embedded systems. I am also rather excited about the engineering lab at the University and the excellent infrastructure which would assist me in my aspirations to carry on my independent research. I am competent and confident and strongly

believe that master’s degree at this juncture would give me the necessary push and momentum that would hasten my steps towards my desired career of an Expert.
