Assignment Task

Design impacts all aspects of the built environment and can be seen in both the contemporary and historical artefacts that surround us. Design found within an environment can often overlap and combine in visually interesting ways, creating interesting convergences of different types of design, particularly in urban environments.

All development is a form of design, which can be seen in infrastructure, industry, architecture, public art, exterior lighting, landscape design and surface decoration, etc.

Design in the environment can also be text or graphic marks of meaning, appearing in advertising, signage or unauthorised vernacular acts such as graffiti. Some graphic forms of design communicate nonverbally or symbolically to the viewer.

This exercise will introduce you to basic framing and composition principles. Your intention is to make four photographs that employ strong composition and framing techniques.
Students will utilise photographic principles to communicate their researched concept for a hypothetical article about the way design affects an environment and its users.
