Highlights
Part A: Develop a quality improvement plan (QIP) – Community Child Care Service
For part A of this assessment, you need to conduct a review of the service or program that you chose in practical assessment 1 and develop a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) to address any required improvements.
To do this, you need to:
1. Conduct a review of the quality of the service/program that you chose in practical assessment
1, using the quality framework you developed as a basis for your review. Keep the following in mind when conducting your review:
You must include consultation with internal and external stakeholders (at least one of each), as well as following the other procedures in the framework.
You may review the whole service/program, or you may choose to review a particular part of it, e.g. performance against one of the quality standards.
Your consultation may be done through face to face discussions or through a written survey, using a survey form that you have designed.
2. Complete a report of at least 500 words to document the process and findings of your review. Include the following information in your report:
a) Description: A brief description of the scope of your review.
b) Performance: Record of the performance of the service/program against quality standards and organisational performance indicators.
c) Consultation: Outcomes of consultation with stakeholders including stakeholder expectations against service delivery.
d) Threats: Any threats to quality service delivery.
e) Compliance: Any evidence of non-compliance against legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.
f) Complaints: Investigate whether there have been any complaints received and if so, the outcomes of these complaints.
g) Other findings: Record any other findings from your review.
HINT: You may like to structure your framework using 1 a – g as your headings.
3. Once you have completed your review, write a quality improvement plan (QIP) to respond to your findings.
The QIP must be at least 400 words and include the following information:
a) Summary of issues: Provide a summary of all the issues that you identified in your review.
b) Stakeholder expectations: Include a description of areas where stakeholder expectations do not match with service delivery objectives. Include an analysis of the variance and why it is occurring, i.e. are stakeholder expectations too high or is service/program delivery sub-standard? Include recommendations about how to address this variance.
c) Threats to quality: Describe at least one (1) threat to the quality of the service/program and provide recommendations to address each identified threat (one or more).
d) Actions required: Clearly describe at least four (4) specific actions to be taken to improve the quality of the service/program. Prioritise each of these actions and, for each, include immediate and long-term goals. You must include at least one (1) immediate goal and one (1) long-term goal (more than six months).
NOTE: One (1) of these actions will need to be implemented in part B of this assessment.
e) Resources: Document the resources required for each action.
f) Update procedures: Document any operational procedures that will need to be updated based on the actions in this QIP.
g) Staff training: Document the needs and opportunities for staff training to improve the quality of service/program delivery.
h) Communication strategy: Document how the QIP will be communicated to relevant staff in the organisation and to other relevant stakeholders.
HINT: Your review can be in a format of your choice. You may decide to use a template from the organisation but must ensure it includes all the information that is listed above. If necessary, add any additional information to the end of the template. Alternatively, you may like to structure your QIP using 2a – h as your headings.
Part B: Implement a quality improvement plan (QIP)
For part B of this assessment, you need to implement part of the QIP you developed.
To do this, you need to:
1. Implement at least one (1) improvement/action item from your QIP.
You may either implement this in a real environment, or you may simulate this part of the assessment. Keep the following in mind when implementing your QIP:
If you wish to implement the improvement in the real environment, you must gain permission first from the relevant workplace supervisor or manager.
If you decide to simulate the improvement, you must make this as close to reality as possible, including holding actual discussions with staff members, creating correspondence etc.
