You have been hired by the consultancy firm, SMP Investment Ltd, as a financial analyst. Your manager, Mark Brown, has asked you to analyse and compare the financial statements of three selected manufacturing companies: Intel, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments. You have requested your technical support person to download financial statement data for all manufacturing companies from into two sheets, ‘Financial’ and ‘Industry classifications’. In the ‘Financial’ sheet, there are columns for the relevant Income Statement and Balance Sheet items required for your analysis.

Required

(i) In Power BI Desktop, use Power Query ‘computed columns’ for profitability ratios and Dax ‘calculated columns’ for the remaining ratios.

(ii) Create pages within your Power BI file. For each page, use the ‘Visualisations’ function to create a table/matrix for each ratio calculated. 

(iii) Use the ‘Visualisations’ functions to create appropriate line graphs for each ratio.

(iv) One each page, use the ‘Visualisations’ function to create a slicer showing the periods.
