  •  Prepare a 2,500 word written reflective portfolio using Kouzes and Posner Leadership  Practices as a guide, and integrate the feedback from the completed 3600assessment and  emotional intelligence tests. 

 

Assignment  

1) Using Kouzes and Posner Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) online web-based  version; you (the leader) are required to complete the LPI self assessment and invite five  (5) other observers that you work in close proximity to complete the LPI observer  assessment of your leadership style. Typically, the observers may include: a Clinical  Nurse Manager 1, 2 or/and 3, direct reports (Staff Nurse, Health Care Assistant, Nursing  Student, Physician), co-workers, or others with direct experience of your leadership practices. The LPI self assessment is completed by you the Leader, while the LPI  Observer is completed by others invited to participate in this process. Each assessment  contains 30 statements describing specific leadership behaviours, rated on a 1 to 10 point  frequency scale, and takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. 

2) Using the Emotional Intelligence Test (http://testyourself.psychtests.com/testid/3038) complete an evaluation of your level of emotional intelligence. Please try to be as honest  as possible and answer according to what you really do, feel or think, rather than what  you think is considered to be the right answer. Read every statement carefully and  indicate which option applies best to you. There may be some questions describing  situations that you may feel are not relevant to you as a leader. In such cases, select the  answer which you would most likely choose if you ever found yourself in such a  situation. There are about 146 statements/questions to answer and requires approximately  45 minutes to complete. After finishing the test, you will receive a snapshot report with  an introduction, a graph and a personalised interpretation for one of your test scores. You  have also an option to purchase the full results for around $10, but this is not mandatory  from an assignment point of view.  

3) Prepare a written Reflective Portfolio: Using the feedback from the LPI 3600leadership  practices, and emotional intelligence, the workbooks, and workshop discussions, select  two of the three LPI practices (Model the Way, Inspire a Shared vision and Challenge the Process), and reflect on each of them using the following framework as a guide (see  Table 1). 

4)The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) 4th ed Workbook pp.1-24 & 31-32 will assist  you in doing this (also available on Brightspace). The portfolio is based on reflection-on action. It is advised that you will find the reflective writing less of a chore if you only  take a few minutes at the end of each workshop/or end of a working day to make  observations, record thoughts and ideas and then attempt to analyse and synthesize those  experiences into the journal. An assessment will be made on the extent to which there is  evidence that the student has moved beyond description to commentary and reflection  and the appropriate use of evidence.

5) Use of the first person is quite acceptable throughout the assignment. Be as creative and  innovative as you like. However, no names of organisation or individuals should be  mentioned as confidentiality and anonymity should be respected at all times.
