Development & Implementation Stages

EXERCISE 1:
ASSESS YOUR IDEAS

Last time, you IDEATED. You brainstormed options, sorted them into categories, rated them, and finally converged to a ‘top-three’ short-list.
This week, you will DEVELOP these three ideas to see what they'd look like if ‘actualized’. To do this, use the PM + O technique.

PM + O
PM + O stands for
e Pluses,
Pluses
Minuses, and
Overcoming.
‘To start, RETRIEVE your three short-listed ideas from last time and WRITE THEM atop each column in the table
to the right.

Next, FILL in the table by describing

  • 3 pluses, and
  • 3 minuses of each idea.

Then, come up with ideas for overcoming each of the minuses. Overcoming

EXERCISE 2:
OUTCOMES & REASONS

The next step in understanding your ideas is to methodically figure out which one idea to converge to and move forward with.

To do this, you will
visualize outcomes

  • Describe reasons each option is interesting, and then
  • Select a ‘winner’ to move forward with To start,

1. Rewrite your three short-listed ideas atop the columns on the table to the right.
2. Then, describe what each idea looks like at the end.

To do this, imagine that everything has gone as well as it could have gone.

  • What thing(s) have you made? OR
  • How does it improve things?

3. Next, describe 3 reasons each idea is interesting.
4, Finally, Select the 1 idea to move forward with and circle it.

Mind Mapping Concepts EXERCISE 3: Implementation Stage

PLANNING LIsTs
You have selected one idea to take forward; to IMPLEMENT.
Now, start Planning how to make it happen. When creating a product or service, it is important to define
the things that need doing, and
the steps to get those things done.

Use Mind Mapping to diagram out five areas you would need to take care of to implement your product or service.
You can think of these as ‘Areas of Focus’ or ‘Projects’.

After Mind Mapping, get these areas/ projects under control,
1. Visualize the successful outcome for each project

  • Think about what each project would look like once it is successfully accomplished.
  • Describe the outcome beside each area on your mind map.

Then,
2. Describe the single next tasks or TO-DOs that you need to accomplish to take each project forward.

Finally,
3. Turn your mind map into a Project List with 5 headings
Under each Project heading write down the next action(s) that you described on your map.

EXERCISE 4:
REFLECTING ON THIS STAGE

Doing the exercises is good work and reflecting on your process helps the learning sinks in.

Answer these questions to guide your reflections. Be sure to show authentic engagement.
1. What did you accomplish during the Development & Implementation Stages? (Make a list)
2. What was your preferred creative thinking tool/method at this stage? Why did you like it?
3. What surprised you?
4. What was particularly useful and would be favourable to use in the future?
