INTRODUCTION (15 points total)

Provide a short Introduction to the laboratory (label the first section of your paper with the title “Introduction”). You are encouraged to look back on the modules, particularly Module 1, to refresh your memory on what this whole set of activities was about. Briefly, we were investigating how different colours of light affect photosynthesis and behaviour of Daphnia, but after refreshing your memory you will elaborate on this.

In future laboratory reports, you will be asked to provide a literature review. That is not the intention for this assignment. We will be more focused on the presentation and interpretation of your results. However, the introduction should still provide the reader with:

1. some background information on your research question(s)
2. a clear indication of the objective(s) of your research
3. a clear statement of your hypothesis (or hypotheses) being tested.

You will be assessed according to:
Quality of information: Did the student do a good job summarizing background information? Is it clear what this study is all about? (0-5 points)

Has the student clearly stated the objectives of the research? Has the student provided a rationale for the experiment? (0-5 points) Has the student specified the hypotheses to be tested? (0-5 points)

MATERIALS AND METHODS (15 points total)
Label the second section of your paper with the title “Materials and Methods”. In this section you will describe how each of the experiments was performed (from Modules 3,4, and 5). You will use a narrative form (in other words, write paragraphs to explain how the experiment was done, do not provide bullet points or lists).

I would recommend a sub-heading for each of the three modules that identifies the purpose of each experiment. For example, you might have a sub-heading “Module 3 – effects of light colour on photosynthesis”. The describe the experiment associated with Module 3. DO NOT INCLUDE ANY DISCUSSION OF THE RESULTS in this section. It is strictly about what was done, and how it was done.

RESULTS (70 points total)
Label the third section of your paper with the title “Results”. In Lab Module 6, you saw a demonstration of how to present your data from each of the three lab modules (Modules 3, 4, and 5). The bulk of your grade on the lab report will be attached to your Module 3 (15 points total)

Your results for Module 3 should be under a sub-heading (similar to the subheading used in your Materials and Methods section). You need to provide a paragraph that describes the results, and provides an interpretation of what the results mean (review Module 6 aan example, but you MUST use your own words). The results should be supported by a Figure or Table (not both).
