Introduction
For your first assignment in this unit, you will undertake a Design Investigation via a series of weekly case study analyses. In the early weeks of this unit, through the weekly ilectures you will be introduced to a range of aesthetically-focused design principles that have been broadly categorised into themes. To demonstrate your understanding of these themes and their related principles, you will conduct a series of case study analyses through the lens of each of the introduced principles.

Introduction:
Attach screenshots of the Website/App you’ve chosen to analyse. For a Website, also state its name and URL (ie. Web address) For an App, indicate its name and whether you viewed it on a Mobile or Tablet device. In 2 or 3 sentences, provide a brief overview about the primary purpose of the Website/App, and its main content and functionality.
 

Analysis:
State 3 adjectives (ie. descriptive words) that you think concisely represent the visual design of this Website/App design.
Consider both of themes presented in that week’s lectures. How are these themes exhibited within the visual design of this Website/App? Discuss each theme through their related principles. Provide examples of where you observe each individual principle being leveraged within the design. Comment on the impact that each principle has on the aesthetic qualities of this Website/App design and how this might be perceived by a user. (Include textual descriptions and screen shots from one or more screens/sections to illustrate your point.)

Conversely, if you feel that the designer has inadvertently neglected some themes / principles, or even consciously chosen to “break the rules”, provide examples of where this can be observed in the design and comment on the impact that this has on the aesthetic qualities of this Website/App design and how this might be perceived by a user. (Include screen shots from one or more screens/sections to illustrate your point.)
Your analysis for both the Website and App design case studies must cover both of lecture themes for that week, along with all of their related principles.
 

Synthesis:
Propose design improvements to one screen in either the Website or App design, using at least two of the principles for that week as your inspiration or guiding rationale. Sketch the design improvements by hand, or else create a visual mock-up inside Photoshop by editing the original screenshot. Approach this exercise according to your current technical abilities. In one sentence, provide a design rationale describing why you think this design change constitutes an improvement over the existing design.
