Based on guided lecture material, readings, online resources and case study examples,  individual students will produce their own poster presentation that explains Building  Information Modelling (BIM) technology. The poster will also present ONE related emerging  digital technology of your choice. An emerging digital technology is one that is not yet widely  in use for the purpose you propose, in the construction industry in Australia. Support the  technology of choice with a case study example of how that technology has been applied  ALREADY in a relevant construction industrial setting. A relevant setting may be in the same  or another sector of the construction industry, a related industry, in Australia, or overseas. 

The purpose of the poster is to present a BIM-related emerging digital technology case study  to the senior executives of a large or small construction organisation. The poster is to inform  their decision-making on whether to adopt the emerging technology to support or extend  their existing use of BIM (feel free to assume any current use of BIM in the organisation). 

A technology case study presents a particular examination of a specific technology in a  related context. In other words, select a single technology and not a raft of technologies.  Examine the features and functionality of that technology for a particular purpose. Do not  provide a long list of all the possible things the technology could be used for. Consider the  proposed application of that technology in the immediate context of a given extension of  BIM. Do not provide a long list of all the potential problems the technology could be applied  to. 

The BIM overview needs to describe current capabilities only, and not rely on outdated or  futuristic possibilities. Be sure to clarify those aspects of BIM that the technology proposal  will address. The choice of emerging digital technology should depend on the availability of  a strong case study example. We are only interested in current, demonstrated capabilities  rather than what the technology might provide in the future or has demonstrated in  laboratory setting only. 

The sources for all material, graphics, ideas, facts, etc. are to be cited in the body of the text  (at the point where they are used), and listed as references in a separate section of the  poster. Note, cite all, but only, the references used in your poster – this is not to be a  bibliography of everything you referred to but perhaps didn’t need to cite. Ensure you  include a range of reference types (from the media, industry reports, vendor websites,  scholarly articles, etc.) to show you have used a variety of search engines (Google, Google  Scholar, UTS Library, etc.) and key search terms. A smaller font size can be used for the  reference section only, if required for space-saving, but must still be legible on an A3 poster. 

The aim of the poster is to inform. If the information is too dense (too many words, too small  a font, etc.) or lacks details of interest/use, then the poster will fail. Use the basic techniques 

of poster design provided to guide how you construct and present the design of the poster.  You are not expected, or rewarded, to be an accomplished graphic artist, but take care with  the layout and overall appearance of the poster. Create your poster in any software you are  comfortable using (powerpoint, word, illustrator, etc.), but it must be submitted as a single sided A3 colour pdf document.
