An Oral Health Needs Assessment (OHNA) is a key stage in the dental services planning cycle. Identifying the information that is already available for an OHNA in your context, recognising the information gaps and knowing how to obtain necessary sources of information for a robust OHNA is a crucial first step.  This coursework assignment (1500 words) will allow you to demonstrate this critical skill by completing an OHNA information plan for the scenario described below.

Scenario: Your Director of Healthcare has asked you to lead on the reform of a dental service for children aged 0-18 years in your region. Identify the oral health needs of the population taking into account the perceived needs of the population

• Describe any information sources about the oral health needs that are not readily available related to children and how you will address this deficit in your OHNA.
• What are the strengths and limitations of the existing data sources that are readily available describing the oral health needs of children in your region?
• The prevalence of oral diseases in the child population in your region (normative needs)

• List the key stakeholders and create a stakeholder matrix to map and prioritise the stakeholders who you will need to inform, engage or communicate with during the planning stages (see appendix 1) 
• Discuss any challenges that you may have engaging with key stakeholders and how you may address these challenge

Assess the existing dental services and their capacity to meet the identified

1. Describe the measures that you will use to assess the current provision of dental services for children in your region
2. What are the strengths and limitations of these measures?

Identify gaps between need and provision and where gaps exist, identifying new or alternative ways in which such gaps can be prioritised and filled
