Dental caries is damage to a tooth that occurs as a response to the interaction between acid- producing bacteria and fermentable carbohydrate over the time in the presence of various host factors such as teeth and saliva (Selwitz, Ismail and Pitts, 2007). This process happens when the plaque (bacteria biofilm) accumulated over the teeth surfaces which then converts the free sugars contained in food and drinks into acid. Then, the acids start to destroy tooth enamel and dentine over time. Therefore, continuous and high free sugar consumption provides inadequate exposure to fluoride, so tooth structures are destroyed.
