1. Choose one bird species that you can easily access and observe from a distance. You need to identify a public location where you can reliably observe multiple individuals of this species. For example, this could be Australian white ibis in the local botanic garden, silver gulls on a beach, red wattle birds in your street, black ducks at the park, or galahs in the paddock. It cannot be a breeding site (colony, nests, etc.). 
2. You will conduct a preliminary survey of the location and determine the particular areas within that location where your bird occurs. For example, you might search the whole of the botanic gardens and just find ibis around the cafes, on the lawn near the water feature and in the fern gully. You will then classify the areas where you find your bird as "high" or "low" in resource quality / availability (resources need not be food, they could be availability of cover, water, undisturbed loafing areas or shade). 
3. Your task is to conduct multiple fixed area, single species surveys to estimate bird densities in your identified areas. By collecting these estimates at different times and noting other variables that might be influencing density (e.g. number of people present, weather conditions, water levels, flowering, etc.) and compare mean densities of your bird species between areas of "high" resource quality and "low" resource quality.
