Essay Writing Assignment:

Task: Each student is to select a leisure or recreation activity of interest to them. This activity will form the basis for developing a project aimed at increasing access to that specific activity for people with a disability. For this assignment students are required to develop a leisure focussed project and complete a suitable funding submission for that project. In relation to the chosen leisure activity, students are to write an essay which covers:

• locating and briefly describe an organisation in South Australia that provides/supports/organises that activity, or, if there is no such organisation, identify why there is a gap if no such activity exists.
• describe the activity – the requirements to participate (skills: physical, cognitive, social, financial, access)
• identify the benefits people could gain from participation in the activity (linked to literature)
• identify the adjustments, supports etc. that facilitate the inclusion of people with disabilities in the activity
• identify the barriers that limit the inclusion and participation of people with disabilities in the activity
• develop a project proposal that if implemented could increase the inclusion of people with disabilities in the activity.

Student are then required to:

• Identify a possible source of funding for your project
• provide a rationale for selecting the funder (why may that funding body support your project? do you fit the criteria?)
• obtain a copy (either current or from previous funding rounds) of the grant/funding submission forms from your chosen organisation
• complete the funding submission forms for your leisure project, seeking funding for the implementation of your recommendation. Complete all sections of the funding pro-forma. Please do this in a professional manner.
