Background Information
The nutritional status of an individual can be assessed by:

• Dietary analysis
• Clinical examination
• Anthropometry (physical measurements)
• Biochemical and other laboratory tests

For this assessment, dietary analysis (covered in tutorial 3) and some anthropometry (covered in practical 2) will be used. You will compare the nutrient content of your ‘recent’ intake of foods and beverages to some Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs). You will also estimate your energy expenditure using the factorial method and assess your energy balance.

Assessment instructions – overview
This assessment has three parts. Some of part two will be completed during tutorial 3 and practical 2.
• Part 1: Data collection. This needs to be done before Tutorial 3 (Week 5).
- Diet: Collect and record your own food intake using the weighed food record method.
- Physical activity: Collect and record physical activity over the same 3 days as your weighed food record.
- Anthropometry: Collect and record your weight and height (this will be done during practical 2)

• Part 2: Data entry and analysis
- Diet data entry will be done in tutorial 3

• Part 3: Written report using assessment 2 template
