Abstract—This paper presents a dual switching frequency (DSF) control method for the dual active bridge (DAB) converter to operate the primary-side and secondary-side full bridges with two different switching frequencies. In the DSF control, the switching frequency of active switches at the secondary side is halved via alternately retaining and skipping the original pulses in the conventional single switching frequency (SSF) control. In addition to the reduction of switching frequency and switching losses, the proposed control offers several other advantages, including zero circulating power flow at the load side and smaller filter requirement. The operating principles of DSF control and the operating modes of DAB in DSF control are presented. The performances of DAB controlled in the DSF and SSF modes are compared. Simulation and experimental results confirm the correctness of the theoretical analysis and the superiority of proposed control.
