Word-processing your assignments
The basic rule is – keep it simple. Do not spend unproductive hours trying to achieve fancy effects.

Use a standard A4 page size.
Your name, personal identifier, module and assignment numbers must appear at the top of each page.
Leave wide margins and space at the end of each page for tutor comments.
Consider using double spacing so you can easily handwrite corrections to your drafts and tutors have space to engage with your points as you make them.
Don’t forget to insert page numbers.
Readability

Use an easily readable typeface such as 12-point Times New Roman for your text. Smaller typefaces are harder to read – not just because your reader may not have perfect eyesight, but because there will be more words to a line.

You shouldn’t need more than three or, at most, four levels of headings. Use different types of heading to make the structure of the document clear.
Where possible, use cell-based tables rather than tabs for laying out tables or columns of figures.
Where possible, make use of bulleted and numbered lists and headings. Use bullet points for lists that appear in no particular order, and numerals or letters for lists where the order matters.
Highlight short quotes by using speech marks and give longer quotes their own paragraph. Be sure to include the page number(s) of the source where the quote is located.
Don’t overdo the use of italics – italic text is harder to read than normal (‘roman’) text, and will lose its impact if used too much.
You may be in the habit of using a spell checker to check your work. If you do, remember that there are several ways in which it can fail to pick up your mistakes; for example, when the word you’ve used is the wrong one, but it is one that the spell checker recognises. You will probably need to double check your work using a good dictionary. Other problems may arise if you have your spell checker set to anything except ‘English UK’.
English grammar and spelling
Competent language use is an important MBA communication skill. If your English grammar and use is of a poor standard, which impedes comprehension, then your tutor may deduct marks.
Copy the question text and give your answer underneath it. Each answer should not exceed the word limit, excluding the reference list. Make sure you note the total number of words in a parenthesis at the end of each question.

Learning outcomes:
• To consolidate learning on the module(s) to date through applied work on an integrated annual report of Hindustan Unilever Limited, 2019-20 and to emphasise the significance of strategy as a process.
• To allow you to formulate, evaluate and communicate your strategic thinking.
• To complement other module material to form an integrated part of your B835 learning experience and prepare you for the remainder of the module and the examination.
Assessment:
The nature of the task
You are asked to review a set of strategic options for Hindustan Unilever Limited and prepare a 2500 word report on your recommendations.  Critically evaluate the sources of competitive advantage available to Hindustan Unilever Limited, based upon identifying and evaluating their resources and capabilities. In your report you will be expected to provide information through a seven step scenario planning method (2500 words, 90 marks).
1. Identify the type of company Hindustan Unilever Limited is and analyse the industry it operates in (Setting the scene -10 marks)
2. Critically evaluate the trends shaping the industry and HUL’s strategy.  Your evaluation should begin at this stage by undertaking an analysis of HUL’s macro-environmental and industry environments (Formulating scenarios-10 marks).
3. Evaluate the long list of factors in the external environment which are (a) uncertain and (b) likely to impact upon the future profitability of HUL; you may add or subtract factors. (Generating factors -10 marks).
4. Reduce the long list of factors evaluated to those which are (a) very uncertain and (b) very likely to positively or negatively impact upon the future profitability of HUL and develop a set of scenarios taking into account the external factors and the resources and competencies available to HUL. (Reducing factors-10 marks).
5. Generate a set of future strategic options which leverage organisational strengths to take opportunities or rectify organisational weaknesses in order to overcome threats. (Generating strategic options-10 marks).
6. Evaluate the strategic options you have generated and choose the option you believe will help HUL retain its competitive advantage, giving reasons for your choice (20 marks).
7. Presenting strategic recommendations. (20 marks).
