Early Childhood Development and Childhood Education

Assignment Task

In the first half of semester, you will be introduced to five issues critical to contemporary early childhood care and education. This task requires you to choose only three of these. For each of your three chosen issues you will identify the key points and analyse these for their importance and impact on early childhood practice and professional positions, including links between the chosen issues.

Please note, for Assignment 1 you can meet the minimum assessment criteria by reading a minimum of one set reading per issues chosen. Later you will build on this information by reading several more readings listed for your chosen issue for Assignment 2. This means only a limited number of readings are needed for Assignment 1. For this reason, you are expected to also participate in the online Learning Tasks on the Discussion Board for each issue.

The five topics are:

• Ethics and politics in early childhood
• Wellbeing and mental health
• Family and community partnerships
• Readiness and transitions
• Reconciliation in Early Childhood Contexts.
