2024 Theme: From the Past to the Future

For thousands of years Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have used ceremony and ritual to express cultural beliefs, meaning, and their connection to land and environment. Fire has been central to cooking, storytelling, warmth, ceremony, medicine, and land management. Some groups also used fire symbolically in conflict resolution ceremonies.

Engineering professional practice includes participation in graduation ceremonies, legal proceedings, commissioning and public ceremonies which reflect the relationship between engineers, the public, stakeholders, and environmental impact.

Introduction 

UniSQ engineering professional practice aims to develop skills in:

1. Self-management, communication, teamwork → Employability.

2. Professional development, statutory compliance, ethics, ePortfolio management.

3. Capstone project preparation – integrating technical and professional skills.

4. Reflective thinking – in ePortfolio and project topic development.

Tasks:
Record a 12-minute (+/- 30 seconds) practice research seminar using Office 365 PowerPoint → MP4.
Self-assess using provided student feedback form.
Upload MP4 link + feedback sheet to Assessment 3 portal.

This forms half of the graduating ePortfolio. Complete 5 CPD activities:

a) Australian History, Workplace Culture & Indigenous Orientation

Reflection: 350–500 words
• Discuss heritage responsibilities in engineering technology and asset development.
• Provide links to Queensland Government Aboriginal land title resources.

b) Ideas → Innovation → Enterprise

• Discuss intrapreneurship and presenting innovative ideas in your engineering workplace.

  • Assessment 3 (5%): 12-minute practice Research Seminar recorded as PowerPoint→MP4; self-assessment feedback form with MP4 OneDrive link uploaded.
