Assignment Task

1. Professional Development presentation

Prepare an annotated transcript for a Professional Development presentation that critically examines the biological, psychological and socioecological factors that may influence the development and learning of either infants, toddlers or young children and consider the holistic nature of child development.

Choose a specific age group and clearly state this in your introduction i.e. infants or toddlers or young children.

• Choose one biological factor, one psychological factor and one socioecological factor that influences the development and learning of your selected age group (section three of your course guide identifies the factors).
• Explain each factor and critically examine how it impacts a range of developmental domains (physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language and spiritual) for the age group. All six domains of development need to be covered across the three factors however you do not need to cover all six for each factor.
• Underpin the learning and development for your selected developmental domains for each factor from theoretical perspectives discussed throughout section two of your course guide as well as in Te Whāriki (Ministry of Education, 2017).
• Ensure that your discussion demonstrates how influential factors and domains are interrelated to reflect an understanding of holistic child development. Review Section Three of the Course Guide for examples of influential factors.

2. Resource and Teaching Plan

Design a learning experience, including creating a resource that could support a range of developmental domains and link them to theories discussed in the course. Discuss how the resource would be used.

For this assessment, you need to physically create your own teaching resource that could be used in practice to support a range of developmental domains. Discuss how your resource could be used to support learning and development for tamariki in each developmental domain (physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language, spiritual). Make links to theories discussed in Section Two of the Course Guide and ensure you are drawing links to Te Whāriki, required readings, and additional literature to inform your teaching plan. Use the headings below to prepare your teaching plan.

• Include a photo of the resource you have made
• What are you going to do? (how will you use your resource with tamariki – ensure you consider intentional teaching strategies)
• What potential learning outcomes are relevant to each developmental domain (physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language, spiritual)?
• How is the resource underpinned by, and relevant to holistic child development theories?
