In the first half of semester you will be introduced to five issues critical to contemporary early childhood care and education. This task requires you to choose only three (3) of these. For each of your three chosen issues you will identify the key points, and analyse these for their importance and impact on early childhood practice and professional positions, including links between the chosen issues.

Please note, for assignment 1 you can meet the minimum assessment criteria by reading a minimum of one set reading per issues chosen. Later you will build on this information by reading several more readings listed for your chosen issue in Module 3. This means only a limited number of readings are needed for Assignment 1. For this reason, you are expected to also participate in the online Learning Tasks on the Discussion Board for each issue.

The five topics are:

• Ethics in early childhood

• Wellbeing and mental health 

• Family and community partnerships

• Readiness and transitions

• Technology and young children

Assessment presentation

Submit a written summary and analysis as either:
i) three discrete summaries and analyses for each of the three chosen issues. No less than 500 words each

ii) one fluid essay incorporating the three chosen issues including a brief introduction and conclusion. The essay would be no less than 1500 words.

iii) presentation with supporting notes equivalent to 1500 words
Ensure minimal number of slides with appropriate layout for good visual presentation standards, include your talking notes (no more than 4 for each issue + a reference list). The supporting talking notes are essential for the lecturer to determine how you meet the assessment criteria. They can be written as if there were a handout for your conference or workshop session or add in the power point notes area attached to each slide. 

Whichever presentation style you choose, you should address the following:
