1. The child is a problem solver

• During a block-building activity, a child encounters difficulty balancing the blocks. Instead of giving up, the child tries different strategies, such as rearranging the blocks or using additional support, until they successfully create a stable structure.
• In the outdoor play area, a child's ball gets stuck in a tree. Rather than seeking immediate help from an adult, the child collaborates with peers to devise a plan to retrieve the ball using available resources, such as a long stick or a ladder made of blocks.

• During a nature walk, a child notices a variety of insects and plants and begins asking questions about their names, habitats, and behaviors
• A child is fascinated by a collection of seashells at the beach and spends time picking them up, examining their shapes and textures, and asking questions about where they came from.

• A child uses a cardboard box to pretend they are driving a race car, making engine noises and turning an imaginary steering wheel as they zoom around the room
• A child puts on a cape and pretends to be a superhero, using their imagination to "fly" around the backyard and rescue imaginary friends from danger.

4. The child demonstrates expressive language skills.

• A child expresses their excitement about a trip to the zoo by enthusiastically describing the animals they saw, using simple sentences and gestures to convey their experiences.
• A child expresses their feelings of frustration when they are unable to complete a puzzle, using words like "hard" and "try again" to communicate their thoughts to their caregiver.

5. The child engages in cooperative play.

• Two children sit next to each other in the sandbox, both playing with their own buckets and shovels. Although they are not interacting directly, they are aware of each other's presence and may occasionally glance or smile at one another,
• A child plays with toy cars alongside another child, both making vrooming noises and moving their cars around the floor independently, demonstrating their capacity for parallel play alongside peers.
