Assessment Structure

In this assessment you will create a short digital presentation, using place to describe the languages of maths and science.

Using our learning through the unit so far, use the theory of 'place' (session 1 notes) to discuss the languages of maths and science. How does using 'place' help us as educators to define these languages?

Your reflections will be presented as a video (uploaded to YouTube or similar) with a written transcript (word-for-word, exactly as spoken) and reference list

Please submit one document to the Dropbox, containing:

  1. Video link
  2. Written transcript (word-for-word, exactly as spoken)
  3. Reference list using APA-7 referencing

Instructions

To get started on your assessment task, please follow the below instructions.

Do not attempt this task until you have completed Sessions 1 - 3 of the in-class activities, including the embedded readings.

  • Reflect on your personal experiences of learning, and the languages of maths and science, and how these personal experiences connect to the unit readings and resources.
  • Visit a place and notice what draws you into connection. Can you use this to help describe your chosen language?
    • You must physically visit the place
    • Notice: what draws you in? What interests you? What are you connected to?
    • Think about the many elements (the more-than-human elements: sky, rocks, land, animals, creeks, plants etc.) and how they have agency in that place.
    • How are you entangled with and connected to these elements in place? How are these elements affecting you?
    • How are you engaging and thinking with place as a pedagogical contact zone?
  • Document your engagement with place, thinking about concepts from week 1 content and the questions above. Take video footage of the place. You will edit this later for your final product.
  • Create and edit your video presentation. You will include footage of the place, and a thoughtful narration, using readings and resources from the unit to justify your thinking
    • Consider: What multimedia tool will you use to edit and share the video? (eg. iMovie, How will you make the video clear, concise and engaging?
  • Review the rubric alongside your final draft - do you think you have addressed all criteria?
  • Upload your work to the Dropbox as one document including your video link, transcript and reference list.
PLEASE NOTE:
The reflection must be in video form (uploaded to youtube) and a transcript must be included. Submissions without a video or transcript will not be marked.
