Assignment Task:

Ensure you have the following to complete the final assessment.

1) A good internet connection.

2) A quiet space at home or at work, uninterrupted for 3-hours during the time of the assessment.  3) Your ECU Student ID card. If you do not have an ECU ID card, a photo ID such as a drivers’ licence  or passport is accepted.

4) A4-sized paper and pen.

5) A camera to take photos of your workings. You will be asked to upload a photo of your workings  for some questions. Note the format of the photo file should be JPEG. ECU computers are unable  to read other forms (e.g: HEIC)

Structure of Questions

There are 8 questions (Total marks 100), 2 Student Identity Verification questions (Zero mark) and  1 Student Declaration question (Zero mark) for a total of 11 questions in this Final Assessment.

Information on types of tasks

File Upload – You will be asked to take a photo of your handwritten workings, with your ECU ID card  or photo ID placed alongside. You will only be able to upload one file, so ensure all workings are legible  and your photo ID placed alongside fit in the photo clearly. Your paper should be A4-sized to ensure all your workings for the question fits on one page. Take note that your photo file should be in JPEG  format. ECU computers are unable to read other less widely used formats (such as HEIC format). Also  remember that when you are instructed to provide handwritten workings, we will not be accepting  typed word or text documents, or Excel files. If you do not provide handwritten workings or the file  cannot be read, you will receive a mark of zero of this question.

Short answer discussion – You will also be required to type into the provided text box for discussion  questions. Each question provides you with a guide on the recommended number of words required  in order to provide a reasonable answer. The text box will show you the wordcount, so you can keep  track. You can go over the wordcount, but the text box function has maximum limits to the number of  rows and will automatically stop you. If you are under the wordcount, it is likely your discussions are  not developed enough, so you may not receive all the marks available for the question. Do not simply  copy and paste discussions from module solutions. Paraphrase adequately if you are referring to  learning materials and be sure to contextualise your answer to the question posed. Your entered  discussions will be run through Turnitin to check for similarity and academic integrity. So ensure that  your discussions are your own work. You do not need to cite your references as this is not an essay  assignment prepared over a number of weeks.

What are Student Identity Verification questions, and why is this important?  At ECU, our values are Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence. This applies to all  staff and students at ECU. This also means students are expected to embody honesty, ethical  behaviour, fairness and respect to others. Maintaining Academic Integrity is the responsibility of all  staff and students at ECU.

Under normal circumstances, the final assessment would have been conducted as an invigilated exam.  Due to our move online this semester and the change to an alternative Final Assessment, we must  ensure all students work are their own. Student Identity Verification (SIV) questions are one form of  ensuring this. Some units must also meet requirements from Professional Accrediting bodies.

You will be requested to answer SIV questions while completing the assessment so kindly ensure you  answer them honestly. SIV questions will not carry any marks, and the information supplied will be  validated by teaching staff. If you do not answer the SIV questions, this may delay the grading of your  assessment or your submission may not be graded.

What if I experience Internet dropout while completing the assessment?  Blackboard does not stop the timer if you experience internet dropout. If this happens mid-way, close  your browser and return to the assessment on Blackboard. Click on “Continue” and resume the  assessment with the remaining time.

Internet dropout can be caused by poor quality of your internet connection and access at your  residence. Unless there is an ECU-wide notification of Blackboard or campus internet outage, we will  not be granting deferrals. Ensure you have a good internet connection at home to prevent undue  stress while completing the assessment. To support students, ECU Library have some laptops for loan  and data-packs (wifi dongles). ECU is only able to offer these services if you present yourself at one of  our campus libraries.
