Task:
Pre-service teachers will develop and present two concept maps choosing topics from senior secondary mathematics units as described in ACARA. Once the concepts are defined and developed, pre-service teachers develop a learning sequence, collect resources and plan learning activities for three lessons (3 pages per lesson) based on ONE concept for an identified student group, that integrate the use of graphical calculators and technology in teaching and learning.
The lesson plans should clearly address:
? Content from an appropriate curriculum document such as the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics, or a relevant IB or state/territory senior secondary course.
? How the learning will be assessed in each lesson and the scaffolding pedagogical questions associated with the teaching of the concepts
? A critical reflection on key issues associated with the teaching of the chosen concept. Presentations are to include:
• Two concept maps and a clear description of the concept to be developed;
• An introduction to the learning outcomes and challenges to be discussed
• Clear description of the target group
• A rationale for why this concept is important in the development of students’ mathematical knowledge including references to the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics; and
• Activities (at least two) and scaffolding and associated questions that help to develop understanding of the concept at a deeper level.
Assessment criteria:
• Clarity of learning outcomes, appropriateness to student group, and appropriate use of and reference to curriculum documents;
• Appropriateness of incorporation of a graphics calculator and ICT;
• Cohesion, creativity and attention to detail of the lessons; and
• Understanding of key pedagogical issues and use of a range of teaching and assessment strategies and resources that will promote and evaluate student learning.
• A review of the literature of significant theories, teaching models and issues related toteaching of Mathematics in years 10-12.Assessment Check list:
• Evidence of careful reasoned analysis and interpretation of the activities identifying target yearlevel and suitable ACARA outcomes;
