a) Create a variable named ‘Tobs’ that gives the total number of observations for each country in the data. Which new country/territory have reported cases of COVID-19 in the past one week?
b) The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic on March11, 2020. On that day what were the total number of reported ‘cases’ & ‘deaths’ world over, and the maximum & minimum number of ‘cases’ & ‘deaths’. Report these global statistics in a single table.

a) Using ‘geoId’ create a categorical variable ‘Ctry_categ’ that takes values as described below: [3]
Ctry_categ=1 for observations on Pakistan
Ctry_categ=2 for observations on United States of America (USA)
Ctry_categ=3 for observations on China
Ctry_categ=4 for observations on Iran
Ctry_categ=5 for observations on Italy
Ctry_categ=6 for observations on all other countries
b) Give value labels to the categories of the ‘Ctry_categ’ variable such that the values 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are labeled with the respective country names i.e. ‘Pakistan’, ‘America’, ‘China’, ‘Iran’, and ‘Italy’ while value 6 is labeled as ‘OtherCtrys’
c) Find and report the total ‘cases’, total ‘deaths’ and maximum numbers of ‘cases’ & ‘deaths’ for each category of the ‘Ctry_categ’ variable in a single table and include a row for ‘total’ statistics in your table. Which countries have the largest and the smallest number of maximum reported ‘deaths’ in a single day? Also what percentage of total reported cases does the United States of America account for?
d) Use a single command to create indicator variables for each category of ‘Ctry_categ’.
e) Make a string variable ‘Ctry_categS’ from ‘Ctry_categ’ such that its value labels become observations for the new variable. Then create a value labeled numeric variable ‘Ctry_categN’ such that the observations of ‘Ctry_categS’ become the value labels of ‘Ctry_categN’. Use a command to see what codes have been assigned to the categories of ‘Ctry_categN’. Are they different from the codes of ‘Ctry_categ’? Why or why not?
Question 3
Currently the United States of America reports the highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in any country worldwide.
For this question, keep only the data for the United States & make sure the data is sorted in the original inverse chronological order . (don’t forget to preserve/restore the data).
a) Use a command to find (and display) the dates when the first ‘case’ and the first ‘death’ were reported in the country.
b) Currently the US has the world's highest death toll. Calculate the growth factor variable ‘GF’, of coronavirus daily ‘deaths’ using the formula every day's new deaths / new deaths on the previous
day . (hint: refer to _n) [2]
c) A growth factor above 1 indicates an increase, whereas one between 0 and 1 is a sign of decline. Which month has the highest mean ‘GF’ & which month records the highest total number of ‘deaths’? Do you see any discrepancy? If yes, what might be the reason? Also find how many days witness a growth factor greater than 1?
d) Make a histogram to examine the distribution of ‘deaths’ variable. Specifically comment on the center & shape of the distribution; and interpret it in context .
Question 4
Consider the data as the entire world data (population) on the Covid-19 prevalence.
a) Find and report (in a single table) the world statistics for; mean ‘deaths’, total ‘cases’ & ‘deaths’, and maximum & minimum ‘cases’ & ‘deaths’ reported till date. Do you see inconsistency in any of these statistics?
b) Take a random sample of size 700 from the population and calculate the average number of daily ‘deaths’ in this sample. Using this sample, what is your best point estimate of the world average for daily covid ‘deaths’?
c) Construct a 95% confidence Interval to estimate the population average. Does your confidence interval capture the true world average for daily ‘deaths’? What about in the case of a 90% confidence interval?
d) Would you expect another student’s sample to be identical to yours? Would you expect it to be similar? Why or why not?

a) For a standard normal variable, use STATA command to calculate the probability of a z-score between -0.93 and 2.11.
b) The distribution of passenger vehicle speeds traveling on a citys’ Freeway is nearly normal with a mean of 72.6 miles/hour and a standard deviation of 4.78 miles/hour. Using STATA find how fast the fastest 5% of passenger vehicles travel. (hint: no data needed)
