As an ECON390 student, you will need to submit Assignment 2 on 18 September. In that assignment, you are required to discuss the causes and effects of poverty on economic development in the developing world and produce a 2,500-word research essay. In order for the Unit Coordinator to advise you on the scope and strategy of your research, you are required to write a brief research proposal. In the proposal, you must include the following headings:

Introduction

Present the context for the proposed research by outlining the background field and reviewing some of the existing research. Establish the need for further research and, in particular, for the project that you are proposing.

Research Aim

Clearly state the aims of the research project. What will you achieve in this research project? Identify the value, significance and contribution of the proposed work. The findings will need to extend knowledge in the field. Consider some possible implications of the findings.

Literature Review

Review relevant previous studies. This will be a brief overview, not a comprehensive review of the literature like the one that you will present in your thesis. It will provide a context within which your research will be situated, and whereby you can demonstrate the need for your particular research. Describe the theoretical framework you have chosen to use in your project.

Research Plan (Use a table to indicate tasks and milestones; excluded from the word count)

Provide a careful plan of the proposed research to demonstrate that the project is feasible, and completed within the required time, and provide useful evidence to achieve the research aims.

References (Excluded from the word count)

Provide a list of all references that you have cited in the proposal. Either APA or Chicago Author-Date is acceptable (ensure consistency in the usage throughout the paper).
