Economics Blog Writing Assignment Help

Task: Topics (subject/discipline: Economics) Write about 600 (+/- 10% allowed) words on each of the topics below and submit all briefs in one single document.  Word count does not include references, tables, figures or graphs. Include the word count at the end of each brief.
  1. Poverty/inequality/social mobility Relative income is always the best way to measure poverty and social mobility.  Discuss this statement.
  2. Immigration Should the UK try to restrict immigration from EU (and/or non-EU) countries?  Why/Why not?
  3. Unemployment Should we be equally concerned with all types of unemployment?  Do the same policies alleviate the different types of unemployment?
  4. Gender wage differences “The overall hourly gender pay gap for full-time workers in the UK was 9.1% in 2017*. The equivalent figure was -3.4% in Northern Ireland. Therefore, the state of gender labour market equality is in a far better place in Northern Ireland than in the rest of the UK.”  Critically discuss this statement.
  5. Ethnic wage differentials Because ethnic minorities are paid on average less than the white majority, some newspapers claim that minorities work part of the year for free.  Discuss this statement.
  6. Housing The inability of most young households to achieve home ownership in London is the fault of international speculators and the failure of the authorities to provide sufficient land for new housing. Discuss the validity of this view.
How to write a policy brief/blog There are two main types of policy briefs:
  • An advocacy brief argues in favour of a particular policy or point of view;
  • An objective brief gives a balanced overview of different policy options or of the different points of view, but does not recommend any specific course of action.
A good policy brief/blog should:
  • Be short and to the point, focus on a particular problem or issue, but does not have to go into all the details; it should include enough information for the reader to understand the problem and form an opinion;
  • Be based on evidence, preferably taken from different sources;
  • Focus on meaning rather than methods: there is no need to go into details on a specific methodology, but focus on the main findings.
Structure: Given the short nature of the brief there may be no need to use headings; in any case your document should contain:
  • Title.  Should be short, catchy and to the point;
  • Introduction.  Should provide a statement of the problem of issue being analysed and why it is important;
  • Main text, divided into topic-specific sections or paragraphs.  Should provide a more detailed overview of the problem, explain past research and how it has addressed the problem, and present alternative policy options where relevant.  The main text can have different structures: i) problem; effect; causes; solution/policy implications ii) subject1; subject2; subject3; policy implications; iii) problem; intervention; results; policy implications. Structure the text in a logical manner and try to keep each paragraph short, focusing on one key idea per paragraph.
  • Policy implications can appear as a separate section or be part of the main text, as described above.  Should discuss possible policy changes to current policy and the likely effects of these changes; discuss advantages and disadvantages of different policy options and include recommendations, if any.  If you do not have direct implications for policy, discuss the implications/conclusions of your discussion.
  • Conclusions and recommendations can be included in the previous sections; if it is a separate section it should be short and to the point.
  • References.  Include the full list of references cited in the text, including websites.  You should rely on academic sources: as far as possible avoid citing websites such as Wikipedia etc. or lecture slides.
