Assignment Task

Background: José’s family has immigrated to Australia for 2 months.

• José (20 months) is extremely a?ached and dependent on one primary caregiver.

  • This caregiver is the only person in the center who speaks Spanish, José’s native language.

• When this primary caregiver leaves the classroom, even to use the restroom, José cries uncontrollably.

• Recently the center hired a Spanish-speaking floater who could come in the classroom and be with José while his primary caregiver is out of the room.

  • Unfortunately, José does not respond to the new person and cries until his primary

  • The caregiver returns or his mother comes to pick him up.

• José likes to sit in the primary caregiver’s lap and listen to stories in Spanish. He always takes iniIaIve to turn the page.

• José only parIcipate into the acIviIes that the primary caregiver is engaging with.

• When José is parIcipaIng in the acIvity where there are other children, José would not directly talk to the children rather asking the primary caregiver (in Spanish) for what he needs from other children.

• José gets upset when the primary caregiver is engaging with other children for extend periods of Ime.

• When other staffs talk to José in English or Spanish, José runs away and to the primary caregiver.
