Title: e-Presentation of literacy approaches and concepts Literacy Resource
Details of task:
Assessment 1 entails preparation of a detailed digital resource containing curated practical, research-based materials intended to be used within your future professional experiences and to engender innovative practices/engagements. The digital resource should focus on your choice of ONE of the following three content description areas:
• Reading & Viewing
• Writing
• Speaking & Listening
The digital resource will be crafted using a specific web-based application that will be discussed in our class workshop meeting. The resource must contain:
1. A creative, succinct 4 minute (4:00 max) recorded video presentation representing:
• Your understanding of the two content description areas you have chosen (see above-listed content descriptions)
• The importance of the two content description areas in terms of children's literacy learning
• A highlighting of a few relevant, current researchers publishing within your chosen content description areas
A collection of carefully curated resources (i.e. scholarly journal articles, popularly literature from websites, professional online materials, YouTube clips,
software applications, etc.) that support understanding the content areas & using teaching strategies in these content areas for yourself, teaching colleagues, & parents/caretakers. A scholarly “rationale” statement for each resource must be given using the 'creating a rationale template' (will be shared in workshop & on Moodle). Additional details will be given during a collaborative Q&A during our class workshop, then on Moodle. Students will complete this assessment in pairs (i.e. a group of no more than 2). Students will be able to capitalize on their partner's strengths while working collaboratively on the assessment task. Pairs will be finalized during the Saturday workshop meeting. Students present in class will be able to select their partner; those not present will be assigned a partner. It is expected that students follow the specific, detailed instructions for this assessment that will be discussed both in class and on Moodle. All students are required to sign up for a group interview to further discuss and gain feedback on their assessment. Groups will engage in this feedback via a Zoom interview. To pass this task, students must demonstrate that they have understood and can apply the material from the textbook, the workshop discussions, and materials in Moodle. Students must work in pairs (if there is an odd number of students in the class, then the Chief Examiner will make special arrangements). Individuals not demonstrating appropriate professionalism within their team will be subject to an individualized mark based on their contribution to the group project. Presentation requirements: This assessment requires the use of digital technologies, a fast and reliable Internet connection, appropriate digital storage, and up-to-date web browser/software, and a willingness to use new media for sharing their work with peers. Students are encouraged to take creative risks that will stretch them beyond the minimum expectations. Students are required to participate in online group interview in order to receive marks on this assessment task. Individual assessment in group tasks: Marks will be based on the submitted work as a whole.
