Assignment Task

Task:
For your transfer assignment, you will write an editorial/Op-Ed calling on Ontario Colleges, the body governing all college in the Province of Ontario, to get rid (or not) of the current letter grade system.

Case Study:
You have just read a CBC article from your Facebook that the Government of Ontario is going to cut General Education subjects from the Ontario college's curriculum. Despite your emails to the Minister and your appointment with her a few weeks back, you decide to garner support from the Presidents, Executives, Deans, Chairs, and Directors of all 24 of Ontario Colleges.
You have learned that they all read the bi-annual publication, Ontario Colleges: Working Towards the Future. This academic periodical publishes research and opinion pieces about the pedagogy and curriculum of Ontario college programs.
You have been in touch with the editor who is willing to publish an editorial written by you stating your case about General Education subjects in Ontario Colleges. She has given you the guidelines (see below) and you must submit your editorial to her by Sunday, March 24 end of the day or it will not be published.
You will integrate information from your research which you will use persuasively using the techniques you have learned in the Week 8 lesson plan to convince the Ontario Executive readers that your position and proposal is the right path for Seneca and its students.
For a template, please consult the Week 9 lesson plan.

Guidelines:
Your editorial needs to meet the following guidelines:
•Be between 650-750 words double spaced
•Contain a thesis statement or governing idea in the last sentence of the opening paragraph
•The body contains well structured and developed paragraphs with supporting details from your research
•A rebuttal paragraph countering or refuting the opposing argument (find an argument and cite it or think what the Minister would say as her reason for cutting GenEds).
•No more than 15% of the words you use in the editorial can be quoted. The remaining ideas that are not yours must be paraphrased and cited.
•At least two credible sources but no more than three must be cited in APA Style in-text and documented in a Reference  list at the end of your editorial*
•Apply persuasive techniques learned from the Week 8 lesson plan (credibility, emotion, logic). Don't simply state the research - use it to convince your audience
•Contain grammatically correct sentences, spelling, and apply formal language in expressing its position
