For this assignment, we would like you to demonstrate your understandings of mindset theory and how it may be applied for yourself as well as teachers and students more generally. To do this, you will deliver a 6-minute live presentation to your tutor, followed by a quick question and answer session.

In your presentation, you will present:

  • A short introduction of the concept of mindsets as a spectrum with reference to the academic literature about mindsets, including the work of Carol Dweck and a brief explanation of the neuroscience.
  • An explanation of the importance of having a growth mindset for teachers and students.
  • Examples of how mindsets may be expressed for yourself, other (imaginary) teachers and (imaginary) students in the context of literacy and numeracy learning. These examples should be based on your experiences and observations. If you have not yet had experience in an early childhood or primary setting, you may imagine your examples.
  • Evaluate the success of one of the strategies for improving your personal literacy and/or personal numeracy from Assignment 2 with reference to Carol Dweck's mindset theory.
