Scenarios

Choose one of the scenarios, based on expectations of the Code of Professional Responsibility, provided below. You will use this scenario for both tasks of your assessment.

Scenario 1- Demonstrating a commitment to providing high-quality and effective teaching

A group of kaiako at your early childhood service or school want to make sure they have the most up-to-date knowledge about high quality and effective teaching that will improve the well-being, literacy and the social interaction skills of the tamariki they teach. Consider how you can introduce some new ideas.

Scenario 2- Engaging in professional, respectful and collaborative relationships with colleagues

There are several kaiako new to teaching or new to an early childhood service or school. As a group, they want to find out more about their roles and responsibilities towards other kaiako whom they work with and what research underpins these. They are interested in mentoring and mentoring relationships and the concept of tuakana – teina.

Scenario 3- Respecting the diversity of the heritage, language, identity and culture of all learners

Early childhood settings and schools embrace tamariki from a diverse range of cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities and identities. You want to find out more about cultural competence that may include teaching that acknowledges and builds on the funds of knowledge tamariki bring with them to their early childhood settings or schools. If kaiako understood better how to affirm the heritage, language, identity and culture of all learners, tamariki and kaiako would both gain, and teaching and learning would improve.

Scenario 4- Affirming Māori learners as tangata whenua and supporting their educational aspirations

Early childhood settings and schools have a number of tamariki enrolled from different iwi. You want to find out more about cultural competence: teaching that acknowledges and builds on the funds of knowledge Māori tamariki bring with them to early childhood education settings and schools.

Scenario 5- Promoting inclusive practices to support the needs and abilities of all learners

You have beginning teachers at your early childhood setting or school and you’re tasked with helping them to understand what inclusive practice looks like in your space.

Task 1 - Prepare a literature review

Prepare a literature review that would provide background information about your chosen scenario.

Produce a literature review which discusses your findings.

Choose four valid and reliable literature sources which relate to your question. You can make use of EBSCO host and any other relevant academic literature.

You must include the following sections:

Introduction :

Task 2 - Communicate findings

Prepare a presentation for the kaiako described in your chosen scenario/topic which summarises your literature review and the implications for their practice.

Your presentation format can be:

• visual – such as a poster
• oral – such as a talk or discussion
• written – such as a bullet-pointed

If you choose a PowerPoint recording of your presentation, submit it with the rest of your assessment.
