Numeracy Across the Curriculum - Planning Analysis Assignment
This planning analysis is divided into two parts.
This task has been designed to provide an opportunity for you to put your knowledge about numeracy across the curriculum into practice. By designing a student numeracy plan, you will demonstrate your ability to identify the aspects of numeracy that are relevant to particular curriculum areas, and to plan and implement learning experiences that support numeracy development within and beyond discipline areas.
This task is assessing your ability to demonstrate that you meet the criteria for the following unit learning outcomes:
1. Construct processes and experiences that develop numeracy capabilities within and beyond disciplinary areas.
2. Evaluate understanding of the numeracy conventions and demands associated with particular curriculum areas.
Part A: Student numeracy plan
This section of the assignment requires you to construct a weekly numeracy plan for a primary year level of your choice. Your numeracy plan should:
? -clearly specify the year level it is designed for
? -be embedded within the weekly routine, and in the lessons across different curriculum areas throughout the school week - -pyou must incorporate numeracy into each English lesson, as well as lessons of at least three different learning areas.
-Refer to the time allocations for the learning areas you have chosen.
? -scaffold and support numeracy learning across the school week and within and across different discipline areas.
-Use the following weekly planning template as the basis for your plan.
?
Part B: Analysis of numeracy plan
The analysis of your numeracy plan should explain and justify your planning approach. In particular, it must:
? -identify the attitudes, mindsets, skills and knowledge of both the numerate teacher and learner and how these have been addressed within the student numeracy plan
? -explain how you have noticed, scaffolded and assessed the numeracy within each of the discipline areas covered within the plan
? -describe the personal and pedagogical knowledge that you (the teacher) will need to support the different components of the plan
? -suggest how you as a teacher can continue to improve and extend your students’ numeracy beyond the plan.
? -justify your planning approach by drawing on supporting literature.
