Description

1. Design a source degenerated amplifier (choose R1, R2, RC, RE and assume that, IS=1e-14 ? = 300 ) such that the following specifications are met:

• Minimum voltage gain, Av, 15 (can be more, this is the minimum requirement)

• Power dissipation PDC < 10mW, Input impedance ≥ 10KOhms, DC Collector voltage=0V

• VCC=5V, VEE=5V

 

2. Run a DC simulation:

a. Report the quiescent currents and voltages and compare it to your hand analysis

b. Report the power dissipation and compare it to your hand analysis

 

3. Plot the DC transfer characteristic (Vo vs. Vi) and estimate the Gain (make sure you use a step size less than 1mV). Compare this gain with your hand calculation. Explain any differences.

 

4. Run a transient simulation with an excitation signal at 2KHz with an amplitude of 0.1V:

a. Plot the input and output signals

b. Determine the gain of the amplifier and compare it to your calculated value

c. Increase the input signal amplitude to 1V, plot the input and output signals and explain the simulation results

 

5. Using the amplifier designed in (1) create a multistage amplifier that will give a minimum gain of 100 (can be more).

a. Run a DC Simulation and report the power dissipation

b. Run a transient simulation with an excitation signal at 2KHz with an amplitude of 0.1V and explain your results

c. Decrease the input signal amplitude to 0.01V, plot the input and output signals and explain the simulation results

d. Determine the voltage gain of the multistage amplifier and compare it to your designed value.
