Highlights
1 LAB WORK
Consider the Microgrid given in Fig. 1 (Bus 1 is Swing bus). In PowerWorld, a photovoltaic (PV) station along with an inverter can be modeled by a synchronous generator. Use the data calculated in Preliminary for the Microgrid and perform the following tasks. See Appendix for the outlines on how to use PowerWorld to perform these tasks. Use data in Table 1 for the scheduled real and reactive power of each bus.
1) Create the system (new case) in PowerWorld, with input data calculated in the preliminary.
2) Run the program to compute fault currents and bus voltages during the fault for a bolted three-phase-to-ground fault at bus 1, then at bus 2, then at bus 3, and so on. Assume 1.0 per-unit prefault voltage. Neglect prefault load currents and all losses.
2 EXPERIMENT RESULTS
Record all the results listed below in doc or pdf file/s and prepare a report based on the following steps.
1) Plot of schematic diagram in PowerWorld.
2) The fault currents and bus voltages during the fault for a bolted threephase-toground fault at bus 1, then at bus 2, then at bus 3, and so on. Assume 1.0 per-unit prefault voltage. (a) Eight records of fault currents and bus voltages during the fault at buses 1−8. (b) Comments on the results.
3) Compute the positive-sequence bus impedance matrix. (a) Record of the impedance matrix computed. (b) Comments on the result.
4) Compute bus voltages during the fault at bus 4 (a) Eight records of the voltages at buses 1−7 during the fault. (b) Comments on the results.
5) For a three-phase fault at bus 4, compare the SCC from simulation with the calculated SCC in the preliminary. (a) Comments on the results.
ASSESSMENT
This laboratory work will be assessed based on the quality of the lab report and correct completion of the lab tasks. You must submit your individual lab report in hard copy at the start of the next lab session. The assessment will be based on the following criteria:
A Guide on PowerWorld
1. To activate PowerWorld, from the Start menu select All Programs, then choose PowerWorld Simulator 15 GSO Edition
2. To create a new case, from the File menu click on the New Case
3. To insert a bus, first switch to Edit Mode, then select Draw Tab, then among Individual Insert command group, select Network command button and click on button. Now, click anywhere in the drawing and the following dialog box should appear: You can choose the bus number and bus name. Also, you can put a value for Nominal Voltage. If this is a slack bus, check the system slack bus. On the display tab, under Orientation select up (or down) for vertical, or right (or left) for horizontal bus. It should be noted that right-clicking on any component and selecting the first option (Component Information Dialog, where Component? is the name of the component, e.g. bus or line) allows you to change the setting and parameters of each component.
