Several studies have shown that listening to music during exercise can improve workout quality through the increase of stamina and improving mood. Music is shown to have physical and psychological effects during exercise. Faster-paced music tends to improve athletic performance when used for a low-tomoderate level exercise (Markell, 2020). A study, conducted in 2006, observed the effect of music genre and discovered that fast-paced music increased the pace and distance travelled without excess tiredness (Markell, 2020). Other studies have alsoshown that music tempo affects an individual’s performance,however, the optimum music tempo is dependent on the type of exercise. Music has shown, through a 2010 study, to improve athletic performance in two ways: delaying fatigue or increasing work capacity (Markell, 2020). This study states that the effects are “higher-than-expected levels of power,productivity, or strength.” The aim of this experiment is to investigate the effect of music tempos on grip strength. This will be done by creating various tempos of the same song “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison (60, 90, 120, and 150bmp) through a program known as Garageband and measure the individual’s grip strength every 30 seconds of the song through a dynamometer (kg).
HYPOTHESIS:
As music tempo increases, the grip strength will increase, reach a limit, and then decrease due to muscle fatigue.
