Read the scenario for this Roleplay.
For this roleplay you are required to:
Demonstrate how to present information.
Request contributions on target setting and efficiency management from work team, management and energy supplier.
Demonstrate how to participate in a discussion and use appropriate communication conventions and protocols.
The Assessor may stop the assessment on occasion to:
Ask questions.
Ask you to explain a statement.
Tell you when to continue with the assessment task.
You must complete all tasks in the required time limit which for this roleplay is 20 minutes.
The assessment will take place in a simulated industry environment with your Assessor and other Learners playing the role of those you seek input from.
The Assessor will record their observations of your performance on the Observation Checklist for this roleplay regardless of the role they take in this Assessment.
All competencies in the Observation Checklist must be observed to complete this assessment.
If a competency is not observed during the time period, the Assessor will create an opportunity to repeat the roleplay (or part of it) or undertake an alternative form of assessment such as questioning or demonstration.
Roleplay instructions to Assessor
For this roleplay you will need to:
Set-up a simulated meeting location – a room with seating and a table should suffice.
Assist the Learner prepare for their role as required and has read and understood the Observation Checklist requirements.
Assist Learners who are to play the role of stakeholders, if required.
Observe the roleplay, and note and record the Learner’s abilities demonstrated during the roleplay against the requirements in the Observation Checklist.
Roleplay Instructions to those playing the role of Work Group members (minimum two persons)
You are seized with enthusiasm about the proposed environmental and resource initiative and eager to support it in whatever way you can but are a little worried it may:
Cause extra work – because every initiative you have ever been part of has caused you to learn something new, attend training, do things differently and has generally interrupted your workplace life.
Raise some safety issues – you are worried lights will be turned off meaning trip hazards etc will not be able to be seen and other needed equipment etc will be turned off or not available when needed.
Slow down production times – because materials/ingredients will be restricted and equipment and technology will have to be turned on and allowed to warm up every time it is needed, rather than being ‘on’ and ready whenever needed.
You have some ideas you want to share with your Work Group Leader to help meet the targets being considered and management of the initiative:
Request suppliers to remove or reduce the packaging and wrapping they provide with all the supplied they deliver – as you know these are a primary source of waste.
Suggest the business switch to purchasing ‘green energy’.
Recommend the fitting of water-saving devices for taps and toilets.
Suggest monitoring of resource usage on an on-going basis and updating of the group on weekly basis on actual usage, savings, issues/problems etc.
Your role at this meeting is to:
Listen attentively to what the Group Leader says.
Ask at least one question about any relevant topic so the Group Leader can demonstrate how to respond.
Respond to what the Group Leader asks and says so a discussion can occur.
Take the role play seriously and take a sensible and cooperative approach to proceedings and discussions.
Roleplay Instructions to person playing the role of Member of Management
You are delighted to have been invited to this meeting and feel the initiative is a great idea with the potential to save the business money and raise its green credentials with customers.
You are very supportive of the initiative.
At the meeting:
Contribute the idea that you think a reduction of 10?ross the board (power, water and resources) would be a good starting point because that is significant and would seem to make all the effort involved worthwhile.
Explain management is prepared to acquire new technology or system to assist with the initiative if it can be proven there would be a suitable return on investment over time.
When asked about management of environmental and resource efficiency recommend that a guiding policy and set of supporting operating procedures are produced and shared with the Work Group so there is certainty about what is required.

You are experienced in working with businesses and helping them reduce their energy usage.
At the meeting:
Share that your experience with other similar businesses shows such organisations commonly achieve around a 5% saving in the first 6 months, rising to 7% within 12 months, and achieving a final potential 12 to 13% savings in about 18 months to 2 years depending on the action taken.
Confirm your company offers green power.
When management of the initiative is raised, mention your company offers a free auditor who is prepared to come to the business, observe the group and its environment and provide a written analysis of observations and suggestions for savings.
