Design Brief 

Your group is required to design a small centrifugal pump for a developing country water supply  application. The minimum specifications for the pump and the design guidelines to be followed are  provided below. You are to follow the 5-step design process and use Solidworks (or similar where  specific arrangements have been made) to design the pump. The pump design is to be 3D printed  from PLA and the design prototype produced will be tested against the provided criteria. 

As a group (of 2) you are responsible for the overall design and performance of the design however, one group member is to be the lead and responsible for the design of the pump impeller and the  other group member is to the lead and responsible for the pump casing. As a group you will still  need to collaborate closely (and virtually) to ensure the two separate components integrate to  ensure overall success of the pump design. Each group member will need to submit separate design  files for the two separate components. Post submission, these design files will be combined, 3D  printed, assembled and tested. The results (and test video) will be provided back to the groups for  inclusion in the final design report.  

 

Report  

A design report for the groups pump design is required to be submitted and be in a similar format to that used for the first group project. You should follow the same general design outline and format  as previously provided.  

The intent of this project is that your group applies the design process discussed in lectures to your  bridge design. Your report should, therefore, document the design process and record the logic and  reason for your design developed.

It should include (amongst other things): 

• Drawings of the various designs and design elements considered. 

• Test results and details of any resulting modifications. 

• Final design drawings and details. 

• Justification for the design developed.  

• References of any sources of information that you used.
