Assignment 2 EIA Process Audit
This assignment (in its entirety) is to be conducted in small groups (of your own choosing) by the on-campus students. On-line students are welcome to form pairs or other sized groups if that suits (i.e. there are synergies to be realised when working collaboratively, especially on a video); otherwise it will be a single student work.
[Note: the COVID 19 situation has obviously changed the way we work and interact. This may affect your ability to work in small groups. I suggest that you do see what is possible (for example, last year a Queensland and rural WA student made an excellent video together and they obviously never met each other in person!)].
The assignment builds upon the work conducted in the previous assignment with a particular focus on critically evaluating the publicly available documentation about the EIA process. It involves a video presentation that tests your ability to communicate orally and visually*.
Objective: The objectives of this overall assignment are to:
-critically review the EIA procedures for Western Australia in relation to your best practice EIA topic (from the previous assignment). and
-communicate this by video
Task: The following question should guide your critical review of EIA procedures in WA: To what extent does the EIA process conform with your best practice expectations (e.g. identify particular strengths or weaknesses)?
Video presentation: The assignment is to be presented in the form of a 4–5 minute video of you (and fellow group members) presenting and explaining your critical evaluation (i.e. each group member must appear in the film for at least some of the content). If you are working alone, then your video must be no longer than 4 minutes; for groups a length of 5 minutes is the maximum permitted. Videos will be shown during the class session devoted to this. Audience members will asked to nominate the best videos in a Peoples Choice Award. All students are welcome to attend this session!
