Module Learning Outcomes
The following LOs are achieved by the student by completing the assignment successfully
1. Describe and differentiate Microprocessor and microcontroller systems
2. Programming PIC16F877 microcontroller using C and assembly language.
Assignment Objective
This assignment is to assess student understanding of microcontrollers and their functions. The assessment concentrates on one particular family of PIC microcontroller (PIC-16F877A). The LO1 and LO2 are assessed through C programming of microcontroller and using features like ADC, Serial, program logic, and development tools like MPLabX IDE and PICSimLab simulator. All the features of the device, the architecture and programming microcontroller using C are covered. The assessment considers the application of programmable microcontrollers and their use in microcontroller-based systems. Various programming approaches to hardware configuration, interfacing and serial communication are examined
Assignment Tasks
1. Write a C program for PIC 16F877A that takes the value from an array with N (use last digit of student ID + 5 as N) elements, and subtract the average from the largest value. Comment the program appropriately.
2. Write a C program with appropriate comments for PIC 16F877A to
a. i. To read N (use last digit of student ID + 5 as N) analog values from RA0 and store in an array. The delay between each read is of 1400ms.
Assume crustal frequency 4MHz
ii. Iterate through the array to determine the count of values divisible by
iii. And send the output to seven segment connected to PORTD and selection bit to PORTA.
b. Draw the flowchart to illustrate the program logic of Q2a
c. Execute the same in MPLABX tool and show the simulation results and generate HEX file
d. Simulate the generated HEX file in PICSimLab and display the result using seven segments
3. Write a C program for PIC16F877A to transfer first name using serial communication at 4800 baud continuously. Assume XTAL = 16 MHz and delay between each letter to be of 700ms. Comment the program appropriately.
