This assessment task consolidates the knowledge gained from this unit, your critical understanding of your professional context and relevant literature into a cohesive plan and justification for your scholarly practice investigation. It will include:
You will complete the assessment task using the template provided under this Brief in the Assessment folder on Blackboard & There are a range of purposes for this third assessment task. The first is to enable you to bring all that you have learned and discussed through the course of this unit into a cohesive whole project proposal and plan. Secondly, the planning within this task will scaffold and inform your project as it moves through the next phases in EMP604. Thirdly, Assessment Task 3 has been designed to take you through an informal ethics approval phase before you embark on the next phase.

To complete this project, you are required to use the template provided. Please also ensure that you have read the document “EMP603 Project A and B Parameters”. Your project must fall under the banner of an ethically low risk investigation. We will be focusing on ethics in educational investigations in Module 4. If you are unsure about the level of ethical risk, please discuss your concerns with your facilitator as soon as possible.
Before you begin Assessment Task 3:
In preparation for this assessment task, you are encouraged to consider the feedback provided by your facilitator for your first and second assessment tasks, along with feedback from your group members and facilitator in the online discussions. Using the range of feedback, refine and adjust your project aim and guiding questions, and develop a synopsis of your literature review. The synopsis should highlight the main findings and theoretical perspectives in the literature that are relevant to your project. It should indicate briefly inconsistencies, issues and gaps in the literature, particularly in relation to your project.
You will also need to decide what type of project you will undertake. You may choose one of the following processes:
It is important that you complete Module 4 before you start on your Plan and Justification. It is also important that you participate in the class and group discussions so that you are familiar with the ethical issues you will need to consider and plan for.
Structure and format
Because there is a considerable amount of information included in this assessment task, you will need to make sure that you write succinctly and purposefully in an academic style. Please also be aware that the template includes both checklists and writing fields. It is important that you proofread and edit your work well prior to submission to ensure that you have completed each of the required sections.
At the end of your Plan and Justification, you will be asked to sign a declaration, agreeing that you will stay within the parameters of this project. This will need to be signed and dated by you and by the Ethical Approval Panel before you start your project.
The following word count allocations are a guide only. You may find that you need to allocate your word count differently depending on the complexity of your role, context and project.
