Overview:
This Employability portfolio is designed to direct students to:
- Research and reflect on their future employability and career development.
- Examine the usefulness of the Graduate Employability Framework (Kinash et al, 2015) for their own future career.
- Construct part of a Personal Development Plan.
Further explanation of this assessment will be provided in tutorials; therefore, it is important that you attend.
Details:
Students are required to submit a 1,500 word (+ or - 10%) Employability portfolio. Well-constructed sentences andparagraphs are required. Headings that indicate each of the numbered sections in the Employability portfolio areexpected. Your Employability Portfolio should be written in the first person.
Section A: Job Role
1. Select a specific role that you would feel qualified to pursue when you complete your degree.
2. Research and outline the following aspects of this graduate role:
– Expected task requirements and responsibilities as described in the advertisement.
– Describe the knowledge, skills and abilities that are required for the role and then classify these as ’Graduate Employability Skills’ see Graduate Careers Australia, 2015: 21 - refer to Employability models lecture week 2.
– Undertake a personal assessment against the ’Graduate Employability Skills’ you currently have/or don’t havefor this position.
3. Place this research material, set out in table format, in an appendix to your Employability portfolio.
Provide an introduction to your Employability portfolio 100 words and a 200 word summary of this research materialin the main body of your Employability portfolio.
Section B: Employability Skills
1. Refer to the Graduate Employability Framework (Kinash et al, 2015) and the ten elements of graduate employability.
Select at least 2 elements and explain how you would demonstrate to the prospective employer your proficiency inthese elements. (400 words)
2. Using the ten elements of graduate employability, select at least one element, and explain why you are not proficientin this element. (200 words)
NB: refer to the lecture pod and reading in week 2 for information about this model.
Section C: Personal Branding
Discuss the importance of understanding your personal graduate identity for your future employability. Using theknowledge you have gained from completing Sections A and B, as well as your study in this unit so far, articulateyour unique personal brand identity (200 words).
NB: you can be creative in the way you present your personal brand.
Section D: Personal Development Plan
1. Construct part of a Personal Development Plan. This plan should consider the development you feel is requiredfor you to be successful in obtaining the job role you selected. This can be from your personal assessment undertakenin Section A or one of the ten elements identified in Section B. Determine one clear goal from this process and writeit as a SMART goal then construct this into a Personal Development Plan using the format provided in Gallagher(2010: 51) see lecture week 6. Place this in the appendix.
2. Provide a 300-word explanation in the body of how setting SMART goals and developing a Personal DevelopmentPlan will assist you with developing employability skills. (300 words).
