Task: Lesson Planning Part A -Three lesson plans:

Deconstruct a sample Technology (Mandatory) Years 7-8 unit plan. 

Identify the skills to be learned/taught, including opportunities for literacy, numeracy, and design. Then, with reference to the Technology (Mandatory) syllabus, and any available support documents, using an appropriate proforma, prepare THREE lessons plans including full details of their learning activities. These lessons may be designed for a regular classroom, or a practical workshop (timber workshop, computer lab, textiles rooms etc). The lessons must be designed to promote skill development through student centred project-based learning (active learning) involving interaction and/or collaboration between students, and the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to support that learning. For each lesson plan you must develop and state lesson outcomes (what you expect the students to learn) derived from the relevant syllabus outcomes and the 'learn to' and 'learn about' content of the syllabus.

Catering for an identified diversity need (considering content, process, and product), as well as the rest of the class, include between the three lessons at least one teaching and learning activity to develop students' skills in:

1. Literacy

2. Numeracy

3 .Design

Part B - Justification: (700 words) A 700 word justification must accompany these lesson plans explaining how the student-centred learning activities will address the diverse needs of students, and facilitate the learning of the identified aspects of literacy, numeracy, and design skills, while meeting these and other syllabus requirements.

(To make your justification strong, you will need to use references from your weekly readings (plus independent research) to ‘support/back up’ the decisions you have made in your lesson activities) You must use references from your readings and wider research to contribute to your discussion. Acknowledge the use of ideas and/or content from these sources using references according to the style of APA 6th edition.

Rationale This task aims to help develop and demonstrate an applied understanding of fundamental teaching and learning principles, key elements of syllabus documents, and recognising and responding to opportunities to develop literacy, numeracy, and design skills. It also enables consideration of how to apply ICTs in a learning and teaching process. Intended Learning Outcomes:

1. be able to apply the essential components of the Technology (Mandatory) Year 7-8 Syllabus including numeracy, literacy and ICT requirements;

2. be able to justify and apply the concepts of project-based, problem-solving and authentic learning in technology education;

3. be able to demonstrate clear and accurate writing and professional written and other communication skills including effective research skills, use of appropriate educational terminology, and referencing and citation conventions.
