Refer to the cascaded circuit below which uses identical JFET transistors with IDSS = 10 mA, VGS,OFF also called VP = – 5 V.
a) Scale the biasing curve and draw the load line for each stage on the universal curve – do this on the graph and hand in with your submission. Obtain the operating current and voltage of each JFET. Also, from the Q-point tangent, obtain gm for each JFET and confirm with formulas.
b) Draw the complete equivalent circuit for high-frequency analysis. You may neglect the influence of the parasitic output resistor of each transistor, rD. Calculate the expected voltage gain from first principles including the effect of a 50-Ohm signal generator output impedance as well as a 2-kOhm load impedance. Then calculate the combined, overall gain for the cascaded circuit.
c) Now redraw your equivalent HF circuit from (b) showing the large coupling capacitors, then analyse their filtering influence on the cascaded amplifier. All coupling capacitors are 10 ?F.
d) Draw a gain [dB] vs frequency [log Hz] diagram of the lower frequency response (amplitude only) of the complete loaded circuit. Show the 3 most significant cut-off frequencies and their filtering slopes. How much attenuation (in dB) is expected at the 2nd most significant cut-off frequency and how much gain is left?
