Investigate the behaviour of structural members under compression, and to compare this  with tensile behaviour. 

 

Procedure 

A modified sash clamp is to be used to compress and tension varying lengths of balsa  wood. The modified sash clamp has been fitted with a load cell which reads to a  maximum of 200N (compression or tension).
