Assignment 2

Objective

This assignment builds upon the opportunity or case explored in Assignment 1. You will now develop and document a practical AI-powered solution through ideation, prototyping, and strategic planning. The deliverables are split across two parts:

  • Part A: A video pitch outlining your business concept and AI tool usage.
  • Part B: A report that documents your AI-enhanced solution, user testing and market validation, and a critical reflection on the AI integration.

Important: You must demonstrate practical engagement with Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, MidJourney, Perplexity, etc.) and use them in the development of your business idea. Marks will be awarded for substantive work based on the content covered in class (e.g., tools, methods, and frameworks, etc).

Part A: Project Plan Video Pitch

Record and submit a 10-minute narrated presentation (e.g., PowerPoint with voiceover or screen recording) that includes:

  • Your business idea and its target market
  • Your prototype concept or visualisation (e.g., mock-up, AI-generated product image, visualization of dashboard, etc.); i.e. not a full prototype, visualizations are fine
  • The generative AI tools you used (name and function)
  • Ethical considerations and limitations of the tools selected.
  • Evidence of feasibility and how you validated your assumptions

Part B: Final Report

Write a structured report (~1500 words) addressing the following components:

1. Prototype Summar

Brief overview of your AI-powered product, service, or solution. Slightly more is expected here of the prototype than in Part A.

  • Target audience and use-case
  • Screenshots or mock-ups of your prototype

2. Market Validation

  • Describe how you tested your idea using AI-supported techniques:
  • E.g., AI-generated customer personas, synthetic interviews, surveys, competitor benchmarking
  • Summarise insights gathered and any changes made as a result.

3. Tool Usage and Reflection

  • Describe which tools were used, why you chose them, and how they helped
  • Critically reflect on the benefits and limitations of using Generative AI in this context
  • What would you do differently in the next iteration?

4. Ethical Considerations

  •  Discuss ethical challenges encountered (e.g., bias, misinformation, data risk)
  • Outline your mitigation strategies using frameworks from class or readings (e.g., NIST AI RMF)

Summary of Assessment Requirements

This assessment builds upon the opportunity or case previously explored in Assignment 1, requiring students to develop and document a practical AI-powered business solution through ideation, prototyping, and strategic application. The project is divided into two major parts a video pitch and a written report both aimed at demonstrating the student’s ability to integrate Generative AI tools in business problem-solving.

Key Requirements:

  • Part A: Video Pitch

    • Present the business idea, its target market, and prototype concept or visualisation.
    • Showcase AI tool usage (e.g., ChatGPT, MidJourney, Perplexity, etc.) with explanation of purpose.
    • Address ethical considerations and limitations of chosen AI tools.
    • Provide evidence of feasibility and validation of assumptions.
  • Part B: Final Report

    1. Prototype Summary: Description of the AI-driven solution, target users, and visual mock-ups.
    2. Market Validation: Discussion of AI-supported validation methods such as synthetic personas, surveys, or competitor benchmarking.
    3. Tool Usage and Reflection: Justification of AI tools used, critical evaluation of their benefits and limitations, and reflection on the process.
    4. Ethical Considerations: Identification of data, bias, or misinformation risks and mitigation strategies using frameworks like NIST AI RMF.

The assessment tests students’ ability to translate business problems into feasible, ethical, and data-informed AI applications.

Academic Mentor’s Guidance Approach

The academic mentor guided the student through a structured, step-by-step process to ensure that each component of the assignment aligned with course learning objectives and demonstrated practical AI engagement.

Step 1: Understanding the Requirements and Scope

The mentor began by helping the student interpret the brief clearly highlighting that the goal was not just to describe an AI idea but to demonstrate hands-on use of generative AI tools in shaping a real-world solution.
The mentor encouraged the student to revisit the business opportunity from Assignment 1 and build upon it to maintain conceptual continuity and relevance.

Step 2: Ideation and Concept Development

The mentor facilitated brainstorming sessions using AI-assisted ideation tools (e.g., ChatGPT for market insights, MidJourney for visuals) to refine the business idea and identify the most viable use-case.
Together, they evaluated feasibility, AI applicability, and potential user benefits ensuring the concept addressed a genuine market need.

Step 3: Preparing the Video Pitch (Part A)

The mentor guided the student to structure the 10-minute narrated presentation in a storytelling format:

  • Introduce the business idea and problem statement.
  • Demonstrate prototype mock-ups or dashboards created using AI visualization tools.
  • Clearly explain which AI tools were used, their purpose, and ethical implications.
  • End with validation evidence (e.g., survey summaries, AI persona testing).

Feedback rounds were conducted to enhance clarity, engagement, and professional delivery.

Step 4: Developing the Written Report (Part B)

The mentor broke down the report into four core sections to streamline the writing process:

  1. Prototype Summary: Emphasis on the product’s functionality, visuals, and intended users.
  2. Market Validation: Use of AI tools for persona generation, data interpretation, and competitor analysis.
  3. Tool Usage & Reflection: Honest evaluation of AI capabilities, limitations, and learning outcomes.
  4. Ethical Considerations: Discussion of responsible AI usage frameworks and practical safeguards.

Regular review sessions ensured that the student’s work met academic and analytical standards.

Step 5: Refinement and Final Submission

Before finalizing the report and video, the mentor reviewed all sections for coherence, alignment with marking criteria, and originality. The student refined the visuals, added references, and improved reflection depth based on feedback.

Outcome and Learning Objectives Achieved

By the end of the assessment, the student successfully:

  • Developed an AI-enhanced business solution prototype addressing a real-world problem.
  • Demonstrated effective integration of generative AI tools in ideation, validation, and presentation.
  • Showcased understanding of ethical and responsible AI practices aligned with professional frameworks.
  • Strengthened skills in strategic planning, digital creativity, and critical reflection.
